The Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound (SASSAS) hosts its annual, intimate house party and benefit at a private home in Pacific Palisades, bringing exciting live acts into a domestic setting for a relaxing outdoor sound experience. This year’s progressive music program features performances by William Basinski, Marshweed, DJ Dave Muller, and “a special six-channel performance” by Languis, along with tunes by other surprise guest artists. There’s also a silent auction on top of live t-shirt printing and specially programmed iPod Shuffles — all with support from the Department of Cultural Affairs and the LA County Arts Commission, among others.

For those of you who think hors d’oeuvres are the highlight of the average art exhibit, Scion presents a showcase where appetizers are the art. Palate features a plethora of mouth-wateringly inedible pieces from a wide array of artists, including Scott Hove and his fearsome — yet fluffy — Cakeland exhibition. Also on the menu: James Reynolds’ photos of death row inmates’ last meals, Jeff Vespa’s huge Polaroids of fast-food burgers, Jeph Gurecka’s installation made out of his own homemade bread, and even a vintage exhibit from the Candy Wrapper Museum.
